Camera Gear
B&H Photo and Video: I buy almost all my photography gear from B&H. They have lots of reviews so you can make sure you buy the right thing for you. Since I'm a Canon girl that's what I know so that is what I recommend but the Nikon equivalents are great too.
Canon Powershot D10 (~$350) A waterproof point and shoot. Take pictures in the pool. | Pentax Optio W80 (~$299) Another option for a waterproof point and shot. I love the red! |
Canon Digital Rebel XSi Camera Body This is a good basic DSLR camera that gives you the option of changing lenses to extend the life of the camera while starting at a lower price point. Not going to have all the fancy bells and whistles of a more expensive camera but a good starter SLR. Offers 12 MP images and the large 3.0 inch LCD screen on the back for viewing your images. Does not handle low light conditions as well as a more expensive model. Will feel more like a plastic body instead of the metal feel of the more expensive cameras. Does not record video, only still images. (~$570) | Canon Digital Rebel Tli Camera Body An upgraded version of the Digital Rebel. Offers 15Mp images and HD quality video capture. Handles low light conditions better than the lower priced models. (~$710) |
Canon EOS 50D SLR Camera Body Features a 15MP image size and improved quality of photos taken in low light conditions. Large LCD on back for viewing your images. Does NOT offer video recording - only still pictures but will do a great job of that. (~$1100) | Canon EOS 7D SLR Camera Body The top of the line consumer camera. Offers 18MP pictures that you can blow up easily for printing. A large LCD on the back for reviewing your pictures. Records HD quality videos too. The magnesium allow body is tougher and will stand up to the elements better than the plastic counterparts. (~$1700, $1900w/lens) |
Canon 50mm 1.8 Lens (~$110) - great low cost portrait and low light lens. I recommend everyone have this lens in their camera bag. A great lens for taking picture of your kids and getting that nice background blur! | Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS Lens ($255) - Image Stabilizing will help when zoomed in low light. Only fits consumer level SLR cameras such as the Digital Rebels, 50D, and 7D cameras. |
Canon 70-300 IS Lens ($549) - great zoom lens with image stabilizing, especially for sports. Will work on any camera with an EF mount including consumer and pro Canon cameras. | Canon 430EX Flash ($270) - and external flash gives you more control than built in-on camera. Direct it towards your ceiling for much softer flash photos indoors. |
Jill-e Camera Bags: Beautiful!!! Ask for one for Christmas.
My Funky Camera Straps I love my camera strap from My Funky Camera. They are so fun. They make a great stocking stuffer too!
- ShootSac: Great bags to carry your lenses in while you are out taking pictures.
