Photographer's Kids

The downside to being a photographer's kid is that mom pretty much always wants to take some pictures.  Today was no different.  I picked up the kids at daycare at close to 6:30.  I looked up and saw some really pretty light, and it was between rain storms so it wasn't actually raining.  What's a mom to do but swing home, pick up a camera and two cereal bars...and head to the park.  The kids ate their cereal bars in the car on the way so they wouldn't be famished and the last little bit of sunlight was still hanging around (along with some scattered dark clouds and distant lightning).  I snapped only a few pictures in what the kids wore to daycare today, and then we headed to the nearby playground until it got dark.  Everyone was wet and had a few new bug bites when we headed home but it was a fun surprise after "school" outing for the kids!

Pajama Party | Houston TX Child Photographer

I recently took my kids out for a photo shoot with a line a children's pajamas that are getting ready to launch their online presence and needed some new photos for their website.  In spite of some difficulties during the shoot (mainly my daughter standing in a fire ant hill-yeah, ouch) they really worked with me and LOVED the pajamas.  They both wanted to wear their new pajamas to bed that night.  I love the classic style of these pajamas as I'm avoiding cartoon characters as much as I can in my own home.  I can imagine next Christmas morning each of them in their white pajamas as they open their gifts.

A New Friend

Well, Hurricane Ike delayed me meeting this little guy who was scheduled to come to a mini session the day the Hurricane rolled through.  But I was thrilled that were able to reschedule.  He was full of smiles and happiness. It brought me joy just to be around him.  Funny story....I mentioned in my class at the gym that I was going to have to reschedule my weekend portrait sessions (before Ike) and the mom was like "wait, are you that Jessica".  It turns out she was scheduled for the session but didn't know I was that person.  How funny is that?  There are some hilarious pictures of me trying to get the dog to run towards me (including one where my hand is completely in the frame because I was patting the ground in front of me trying to get the dog to come to me).  And look at those eyes...you can actually see the blue sky reflected in them.

Warming up in the Sun

This weekend was supposed to be the weekend I had beach sessions down in Galveston for family portraits.  Unfortunately Hurricane Ike changed that plan.   Tonight I still had my portrait session with the family scheduled for the beach.  My son used to take mommy and me swimming lessons with this little guy and I can't believe how big they have BOTH gotten.  He was a little shy in the beginning but warmed up towards the end.

Another Fun Family

Blogboard_copy

I had such a great time during my session with this family.  It is my third time seeing them so we are all old friends now.  When they arrived Mom told me that her son wanted her to just drop him off so we could play without Mom watching us.  How awesome is that?  The oldest boy is SOOOOO full of energy.  Even after running a few laps he was able to beat me in a sprint race (I blame my shoes).  The little girl was delightful and was able to tell me all about evacuating to her cousin's house during Ike.  And the little baby has a VERY easy smile.  Don't worry mom, I have a nice smiling picture of "P' too but I just had to include his wide mouth shot AND the picture of hum running at you while assisting me during your couple picture!  Ha ha ha!

My Boy

Sebastianblogboard_copy

I don't seem to get to photograph my own children that often anymore because we are busy busy busy.  So one day last week my 3 year old son came to work with me for the afternoon and on the way home we stopped off at George Bush Park for a few quick pictures since it was the tail end of sunset.   I can't believe how old he looks!  He is no longer my little baby!

Sunset Boy

After rescheduling because I was sick, we had bad weather, and this sweet baby boy was sick I finally go to meet up with this family for portraits of their adorable 3 month old son.

We met at George Bush Park around sunset when it has that pretty warm light.  He was in a fantastic mood giving us lots of smiles and eye contact.  Usually photographing kids that age is much more challenging but he really made my job easy and I had a great time.   I'm already looking forward to seeing this family again in November for holiday portraits.

If you haven't already scheduled your holiday portraits do it soon.  We are booked for September and for Saturdays through the end of the Holiday season.  I do still have weekday appointments available in October.  I also have ONE spot left for my mini-sessions on Saturday Sept 13th and two spots left for my mini session on Sunday October 26th.  See our holiday update post below.

Just My Kids

I so rarely get the chance now to photograph my own kids because we are so busy but Sunday we took a little time out around sunset to visit the local park where my husband took my son fishing while I hung out with Abby.  Here are a couple of quick pics of my kids.  More to come (some of Abby's were for the Josiekat's Trunk clothing catalog but I haven't processed them all yet)!

Family Fun

This family scheduled forever ago to do a family portrait while everyone was around for Christmas.  I was a little nervous about taking pictures of 13 people but they were so fun I forgot all about it once we were there.  Everyone looked so nice in their crisp white shirts and blue jeans.  I LOVE blue jeans for pictures because it is such an easy way to add some color!  We did pictures at George Bush Park around sunset.  I did a bunch of sub-groups too but the big group pictures we basically did two poses.  One with folks sitting and standing with the sun at their backs, and one with everyone standing with the beautiful warm sunset light on them.  I had to wait for the sun to get low enough so we wouldn't end up with squinting but once the sun was in that sweet spot I was jumping around asking if they needed any more group shots because the light was SOOOOO pretty.  Merry Christmas!!!

First Mama

I got a call recently from a mom that heard me speak at her MOPS group and she asked if I did maternity sessions.  Well, I hadn't done one before but was up for the challenge and she was nice as can be.  We had a nice time talking about our kids (she has three other kids at home including almost 3 year old twins!!!).

Sunset at George Bush Park is quickly becoming a favorite for me.
