Katy Family Photographer | Warming up a cool morning...

Saturday it was a little chilly in the morning.  When I arrived at LaCenterra Mall for this family photo session, I stayed in the sun waiting for the family to arrive.  The stores were not open yet but the farmer's market was setting up.

If you aren't from the area, you may not know that it is the time of year for the Houston Rodeo.  Well, These guys looked like they were ready to go - all in their cowboy boots and jeans.  I LOVE these wooden doors at LaCenterra.

Katy Child Photographer
What a cutie!  By the end we were friends...he even let me hold his hand as we walked from spot to spot for the pictures. I think he figured out that a portrait session with me is more like a play date...lots of running, dancing, hiding, and even a song or two.

Katy Baby Photographer
And his baby sister, who turned one in the fall, wasn't about to let him have all the fun.  She could run with the best of them.  She was funny too about her hair...she kept patting it back into place!

I really wanted to take advantage of this really cool window (while the restaurant was closed) and since this little girl was petite for her age, it was the perfect opportunity to use it.  Don't worry though, mom was less than an arm's length away just to the left so she could grab a hold if she tried to get down!

And a quick one of mom and dad.  We only got to take a couple before we had to go chase down the kids...I bet they keep them on the move at home too!

Good Things Come in Threes - revisited | Houston Baby Photography

TripletBoys
Remember these sweet little triplet boys I photographed at the NICU in November?  Well they went home shortly after their pictures and mom was feeling ready to have me come tackle them at home for some new pictures!

IMG_9588-Edit

First, let me point out how absolutely fab mom looks with her three sweet babies!

The boys are now about 5 months old but their adjusted age is only 2 months. So they are at that awkward age to photograph.  They can't hold their heads up yet and they don't sit up yet but they were so sweet during their session and made LOTS of eye contact.

BabyS
This was baby S then.  He was a good eater then, and he is still a good eater now.  I saw him knock back a bottle faster than his two brothers!    He was so active during our pictures and loves to KICK.  He's going to be one busy boy!

IMG_9531-Edit

BabyW
Then there was baby W.  He didn't care much for having his picture taken last time.  And he wasn't that into it this time although I did get him to smile a bit for me!  When I didn't have the camera he was giving me GIANT smiles.  So sweet.  Here he is now - a big boy!!

IMG_9471-Edit

Last and certainly not least...Baby A!!!  He was the last one to come home from the hospital, and is smaller than his two brothers.  But oh my!!! He is so alert.  I remember when I did the pictures at the NICU he was all wide eyed taking everything in.

BabyA

...and he hasn't changed.  He was wide eyed and relaxed during his part of the session.  He had excellent eye contact the entire time.  And he listened to me just talk and talk!

IMG_9400-Edit
Isn't it amazing how much he's grown up!  And he has the finest blond hair...so sweet.

I really enjoyed hanging out with these guys this morning.  Mom handles it all with such grace and beauty.  I would be a basket case, for sure.  Mom offered to make me a sandwich (the shoot lasted just shy of 4 hours)!  I thought, surely she has enough to do with these three!

And because I can't resist, another of mom with her boys together!

Winter Holiday

We are shaking things up again at Bubblegum Tree and we'll be back with announcements but first something totally fun...

NYTripBoard

I grew up in Upstate NY - complete with below 0 winter temps and lots of snow.  So it was great to take my kids up to visit the family earlier this month.  We had 5 inches of fresh snow each of the first two nights we were there.

My mom offered to take the kids sledding.  My son asked "what's a sled?".  He's almost 5 and just had no idea.  He LOVED the snow in a way I still cannot completely wrap my brain around.  He wanted to play in it, lay in it, and eat it.  It was hilarious.  Unfortunately it was also about 8 degrees out so we didn't play outside for long.

A little peek

This shoot was done by our associate photographer Valerie just before Thanksgiving at LaCenterra.  This family could be in a GAP ad...so cute!

Girls in Tutus

Saturday I had to totally different sessions that each included some of the tutus that we have in our inventory now.

The evening session was with these two sisters that I've been photographing for three years!  Every year I do their Christmas card pictures and I photographed the little one earlier in the week for her three year portraits.  This was a session for their holiday cards this year....I saved some AWESOME shots for mom's eyes only as I think she'll want to use them for her cards this year but here are some fun ones!

I loved them twirling and dancing together!

At three years old she displays a lot of grace and beauty!  And a very sweet personality!

Big sister proudly told me how busy she has been keeping the tooth fairy.  She has lost 6 teeth recently!  Wowsa!  I always like to include portraits with a more serious feel or a tranquil moment in my sessions!

Christmas in Cinco Ranch

I love this park that is only about 5 minutes from my house and I was in luck that my client today also only lives a few miles away.  The kids came dressed in their holiday clothes with the hope of capturing a picture for their holiday card this year.  While one little guy was pretty busy and NOT interested in staying still with his siblings we were able to get a few pictures of them at least near each other. I know this mom stays busy keeping up with these three!  Oh, did I mention it was 90 degrees and threatening to thunderstorm on us?  Yeah, they were VERY good sports.

After their holiday outfits they were able to change into these great bright colorful outfits that just made my heart sing.  How can you NOT be happy in a shirt like this! And on a playground too!!!

Taking Time Off For Family

This week I had visits from some family members that forced me to take a little time off.  And it was so great.

On Thursday my dad was visiting from Florida so I pulled my 4 yr old son out of day care for the day and we went all over town.  First, we hit up Ray's Franks for some fantastic hot dogs.  If you haven't been be sure to check them out.

We followed up lunch with an afternoon trip the the Children's Museum of Houston.  Again, if you haven't been definitely put it to the top of your to-do list.  We are members so we do get to go pretty frequently but this is the first time I have gone with only one of my kids.  It really made a big difference because I could just let him spend as much time as he wanted to in each section.  He spent the most time building cars out of Legos.  Time to invest in some Legos for home, I think.  It was also the first time I brought my camera with me so I did take LOTS of pictures.  I put it together in a little video so you can check out some of the fun activities there too!

Then my brother, his wife, and their three girls came out for the weekend from San Antonio.  The cousins had a blast playing together and to be honest, we didn't see much of them because they were usually upstairs in the playroom making up games, or making a mess!  My youngest niece is only 10 months old so we took a few minutes in my backyard before they left to head home this morning to take a few quick pictures of her. She only weighs 14 lbs so she is pretty small for her age but it make it doubly fun to watch her crawl around all over the place!

Of course, I recommend that everyone take time out of their busy schedules, as hard as it is, to spend some time with family.  And take pictures when you do so you can preserve those memories.  Want to know more about how to use your camera?  I still have openings in my Oct 4th (Sunday evening) Capturing Everyday Moments beginners' photography class.

Already One? A year of fun...

It is hard to believe this little guy is already one!!! Where has the year gone?  I love getting to see these babies grow up from that very first newborn session to the one year and all the changes in between.  I have a 16x20 canvas of this little guy's newborn portrait hanging at my loft - he had a strong boy face even as a newborn.  Now is is running around and interested in everything.

IMG_3198-Edit

And boy does he love his Mama!  I love when they give their mama kisses!  So cute!

IMG_3294-Edit

By the way, do these folks not have just a fabulous backyard.  Lots of lush landscaping and older wood privacy fences are fantastic for background texture.

Mom brought out a bowl of rose petals for us to use for a few pictures of big sister.  I KNEW as soon as I saw them that I really wanted her to throw them up in the air - and she was totally up for that!
